Infertility Options for Couples to Consider

For couples who have tried to conceive a child naturally for a year or longer with no success, there are all kinds of infertility options to consider. The first thing that should be done is a medical examination of both partners to determine the cause of the fertility problems. There are many conditions that can cause infertility and many reasons why couples cannot conceive. Luckily there are also infertility solutions that can solve the problem.

The first thing you should do is sit down with your doctor and discuss all test and examination results. A diagnosis is imperative before a fertility issue can be remedied. If the problem is due to irregular ovulation or low sperm count, there are drugs like Clomid that may be prescribed. The couple may then try to conceive through sexual intercourse again and see if the drugs work. One of the downsides of fertility drugs is the possibility of multiple births, unless you want more than one baby at once. There is a process called selective reduction, which is something to discuss with your fertility doctor.

If after taking fertility drugs natural conception still does not occur, the next step might be IVF which stands for in vitro fertilization. This is a process where fertility drugs are given to encourage a higher number of healthy eggs to ovulate, which are collected at the right time and fertilized with captured sperm in laboratory incubator devices. The fertilized eggs are placed in the uterus using a simple procedure requiring no surgery or recovery time. It is similar to a pelvic exam and a tiny tube is used to insert the fertilized eggs which are encased in protective liquid.

It may take more than one round of IVF to become pregnant. If you decide not to go through this procedure, there are other infertility options like using a surrogate mother. Another one of the most popular infertility solutions is adoption. Rather than creating new life, you may want to adopt a child that is in need of a home. Some agencies let you choose the age of your child, for example if you want a newborn you can specify this. You can also specify any particular characteristics you want the birth parents to have. Whether you use fertility drugs, IVF or adopt, there are various ways you can realize your dream of parenthood.
